A curving crushed-gravel path edged on both sides with rounded river stones, running from a planting bed of hostas and ornamental grass beside a pale-sided house up across a mown lawn to a wooden gate in a board fence, with a large oak on the lawn and a wooded ridge behind in low evening sun.

When Rock, Gravel, and Stone Work Makes Sense

There's a spot you've been meaning to do something with.

You may have:

  • A path to the shed, the garden, or the back gate that's solid underfoot after it rains
  • A strip along the side of the house where the grass never took
  • A place to park the trailer, the boat, or a second vehicle off the lawn
  • A clean edge so the mulch stays in the bed and the grass stays out of it
  • River rock along the foundation or under the eaves
  • A few stone steps where the yard drops off, or a low wall to hold a bed on a slope
  • A strip between the fence and the drive that's a chore to mow
  • A spot off the back door for a couple of chairs

Or it's the corner you've looked at for years and would just like done.

Gravel, or Something More

Not sure what would work there? David can look at the spot with you.

Sometimes the whole answer is a load of gravel and a clean edge.

Sometimes it's more than that, and you'll hear what from him before anything is priced.

If it's the beds and the planting you're thinking about, that's landscaping.

What to Expect

Show David the spot and say what you're picturing. That's enough to start.

When he comes out, he looks at:

  • The spot, and how big it is
  • Which way the ground slopes
  • What's around it, like the house, the beds, a fence, a tree, or the driveway
  • How a load of rock or gravel gets to it
  • What you'd like it to look like when it's done

Then you talk through the options. Gravel or stone? A straight edge or a curved one? Steps here, or a path around?

You get a price for the work, and he'll tell you what's in it.

You decide. Nothing goes on the schedule until you say so.

What We Do, and How Big a Job We Take On

Rock, gravel, and stone, on the scale of a yard.

Gravel and rock come in on a dump trailer. Where there's room to get it in, a skid steer does the heavy moving.

Stone edging, borders, and steps are set by hand. A low wall is stacked stone.

When the work's done, we rake the spot out and blow off the drive and the walkways before we leave.

A path, a pad, an edge, a set of steps, a low wall, a small sitting spot, a strip of gravel or river rock. One of those, or several of them around the property.

Picturing more than that? A full patio, a retaining wall, a fence to go with it. We've done those too, in combination with the other companies we work with regularly.

Whoever brings the job in coordinates it. Call us first, and you deal with us while we manage the whole project.

Outdoor Lighting

Want the path or the steps lit?

We install landscape lighting along a path, up a set of steps, or wherever you'd like to see after dark.

If the lights need power run across the yard, that's trenching, and we do that too.

Landscaping and Beds

Beds and planting to go with it?

Planting beds, mulch, shrubs, trees, and raised gardens are landscaping. A stone edge and a fresh bed can go on the same quote.

Learn About Landscaping

Property Care

Would you rather not be the one keeping it up?

Once the path or the edging is in, if you'd rather somebody else looked after the beds, the lawn, and the trees around it, that's property care.

Why Work With Us

One gravel path is a real job here.

We're more than 25 years into working on yards, trees, acreage, homes, and commercial properties around Greater Chattanooga.

When David comes out, he's looking at the spot, and at how a load of rock gets to it.

Know exactly what you want, down to the stone?

We'll quote that.

Have a spot and a rough idea?

He'll walk it with you and say what he'd do there.

Just want a strip you can quit mowing?

That's a small job, and we'll quote it like one.

Sometimes the spot wants less than you were picturing.

Sometimes it wants more, and he'll tell you that at the estimate, not partway in.

And sometimes the best thing is to leave the corner alone for now.

The goal is a spot you're glad you did something with, done the way you wanted it done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about rock, gravel, and stone work

How big a job will you take on?

Paths, pads, edges, steps, low walls, small sitting spots, and gravel or river rock where you want it.

Bigger than that, like a patio or a retaining wall as part of a whole outdoor build, we do in combination with the other companies we work with regularly. Call us first and we coordinate the whole thing.

Will you come out for just a gravel path?

Yes.

A path to the shed, an edge along one bed, or a strip of gravel by the drive is a normal job. So is doing the whole side yard at once.

Do you do patios?

Yes.

A spot off the back door for a couple of chairs is a normal job on its own.

A bigger patio, or one that's part of a whole outdoor project, we do in combination with the other companies we work with regularly, and we can manage the whole project for you.

What kind of stone do you work with?

Rock, gravel, river rock, and natural stone. If you have something particular in mind, bring it to the estimate. David can tell you whether it'll work in the spot.

Is the skid steer going to tear up my yard?

Where equipment is going to run across the yard, mats go down first. When the job's done, the crew goes back over the ground and straightens it up.

The goal is to prevent the damage. Where we can't prevent it, we do our best to put it right before we leave.
