When Tree Removal Makes Sense
Sometimes a tree is dangerous. Sometimes you just want it gone.
A tree doesn't have to be dead before removing it makes sense.
You may have a tree that is:
- Dead, damaged, or declining
- Leaning toward a home or other structure
- Growing too close to a roof, driveway, fence, or utility
- Blocking a view or sunlight
- In the way of a new fence, building, driveway, garden, or landscaping project
- Taking up space you'd rather use differently
And sometimes you simply don't want the tree there anymore.
It's your property.
Not Sure About the Tree?
When the concern is the condition of the tree, David can take a closer look and explain what he sees.
Some trees that look rough still have years of healthy life left.
Others may have damage, decay, root problems, or structural issues that aren't obvious from the ground.
If removal is recommended, we'll explain why.
If the tree can safely stay, we'll tell you that too.
What to Expect
We'll look at the tree, the surroundings, and the safest way to bring it down.
Every tree removal starts with the property around it.
Before anything is cut, we look at:
- The size and condition of the tree
- Which direction it naturally leans
- The weight and shape of the canopy
- Nearby homes, decks, fences, driveways, and landscaping
- Access for equipment
- Slopes and ground conditions
- How much room there is to work safely
If there's enough open space, a tree may be able to come down as a whole.
In tighter spaces, it usually comes down in sections.
Limbs and sections of trunk can be lowered carefully with ropes or removed using climbing equipment or a bucket, depending on the tree and the property.
Trees close to homes, decks, fences, and other structures are a regular part of the work we do.
David will explain how he'd approach your tree when he comes out for the estimate.

Cleanup & Wood Removal
The job isn't finished when the tree hits the ground.
Taking the tree down is only part of the work.
Once it's on the ground, there are limbs, brush, logs, wood chips, and often a stump to deal with.
We'll talk with you before the job starts about what you want to keep and what you want removed.
Most customers have us haul the debris away.
If you'd rather keep the wood, we can leave it stacked where you want it.
Burn firewood? Let us know and we can cut the wood into manageable lengths while we're already working on it.
When the job is complete, we rake the work area and blow off nearby drives and walkways.
Our goal is simple:
Take down the tree without leaving you another project to clean up afterward.
Stump Options
Want the stump gone too?
If you want it gone, we can remove the tree and grind the stump.
You can:
- Have the stump ground when the tree comes down
- Schedule stump grinding later
- Leave the stump in place
Access matters.
Some stumps are difficult or impossible to reach with a grinder because of steep slopes, narrow gates, retaining walls, or other obstacles.
David can look at the stump during your estimate and let you know what is possible.

Why Work With Us
You'll get a straightforward recommendation before any work begins.
David Hooper has been removing trees and caring for properties throughout the Greater Chattanooga area for more than 25 years.
When he comes out for an estimate, he's not just looking at the tree.

Already decided the tree needs to go?
We'll quote the removal.
Wondering whether removal is actually necessary?
David will tell you what he sees.
Sometimes the right answer is removing the tree.
Sometimes trimming solves the problem and lets the tree stay.
And sometimes a tree that looks concerning can safely wait.
The goal is to give you enough information to make a good decision about your property.
Out On A Limb For You is an insured Georgia LLC based in Flintstone, Georgia and serves customers throughout Greater Chattanooga on both sides of the Georgia-Tennessee state line.
Tree Trimming
Sometimes removal isn't the only option.
Not every tree problem requires taking down the whole tree.
If the main concern is:
- A limb over the roof
- Dead or damaged branches
- Growth too close to a structure
- Storm damage to part of the canopy
- An overgrown or unbalanced tree
Trimming or pruning may solve the problem while keeping the tree.
If that's the better option, David will tell you.

Storm Damage
Already have a tree down?
If a tree or large limb has already fallen on the house, across the driveway, or somewhere else on the property, start with our storm damage service.
We can help with emergency tree removal, debris cleanup, temporary roof tarping when needed, and estimates or documentation your insurance company may request.

Customer Reviews
Cleanup is one of the things customers mention most.
Tree removal can be messy work.
Our crews put just as much attention into how the property is left afterward.
The team took down a dead hickory that was 3 feet from our house and 2 feet from our deck. The tree was in a corner of the 2 structures. It came down without mishap to anyone or anything. The stump is a few inches tall, but there was no way to get a grinder to the stump due to being on a ridge and the slope of our yard. I highly recommend this company.

Let us know before we start and we can cut the usable wood into manageable lengths and leave it stacked on the property.
Can you tell me whether a tree actually needs to come down?
Yes.
If you're concerned about a tree but aren't sure whether removal is necessary, David can look at it and explain what he sees.
Sometimes removal is the right answer.
Sometimes trimming is enough.
If the tree can safely stay, we'll tell you that too.
What do you do to protect lawns and landscaping from equipment?
We do our best to prevent damage to your lawn and landscaping.
Where equipment is going to run across the yard, we lay mats down first.
Sometimes no heavy equipment comes in at all.
A climber can take the tree down from up in it, and nothing heavy has to cross the grass to get there.
When the work is done, we go back over the ground and straighten things up.
The goal is to prevent damage. Where we can't prevent it, we do our best to put it right before we leave.
Can you remove a tree that's close to my house?

Does tree removal include stump grinding?
Not automatically.
Stump grinding is quoted separately.

Access can sometimes limit whether a grinder can reach the stump, especially on steep slopes or in tightly enclosed areas.
Do you haul the tree and debris away?
Yes, if you want us to.
Most customers have us remove the limbs, brush, and wood from the property.
There is an additional cost for hauling and disposal.
