When Land Clearing Makes Sense

You've got a plan for the land. What's growing on it is in the way.

You may be looking at:

  • A pasture you want to fence and put animals on
  • A building site for a house, a shop, a barn, or a commercial project
  • A lot that has to be opened up before anything else can happen
  • A back corner of the yard that's grown up in brush and saplings
  • A fence line, a property line, or a view you'd like cleared
  • Ground you're expanding into, next to the part you already use
  • A piece of land you bought for a reason and haven't been able to start on

And sometimes you'd just like to be able to walk to the back of your own property. That counts too.

A Strip or Several Acres

The job might be a strip along a fence line. It might be several acres. Both are land clearing.

If what you've got is one tree, or a few, that's tree removal.

What to Expect

We start with what you want the land to look like when we're done.

Before anything is cut, David walks the property with you and looks at:

  • What's growing there: brush, undergrowth, saplings, mature trees
  • What you want to keep, like a shade tree, a stand of hardwoods, or the trees along the road
  • Where the property lines are
  • Slopes, wet spots, and how equipment gets in
  • What the land is for afterward, because a pasture and a building site are different jobs

Then you get a price, and we go over what's in it. You decide from there.

Say the word, and it goes on the schedule.

Brush and undergrowth are cut and cleared. Trees come down, in one piece where there's room and in sections where there isn't. Stumps can be ground out if you want them gone.

We clear year-round. Ground that has dried out after the spring rains is easier on equipment, and with everything in full leaf you can see the whole of what's out there.

David will go over how he'd approach your property when he comes out for the estimate.

When we're finished, you can walk the whole piece and see what you've got.

A wide graded building lot of level bare earth with a gravel access at one side, a silt fence along its far boundary, an unbroken tree line behind it and blue ridges beyond.

What Happens to Everything We Clear

An acre of brush is a lot of material, and we'll agree on where it goes before we start.

A few trees make one pile. A cleared site makes many.

Most of it is loaded into the trailer and hauled off.

Got woods or a back corner where you'd rather it stay? Say so before we start, and we'll talk through what makes sense.

Same if you'd like to keep some of the wood.

Where it all goes is settled before the first load leaves, and it's part of what's quoted.

Stump Grinding

The stumps can come out while we're there.

On a cleared site, the stumps are usually the difference between ground you can mow and ground you can't.

We can grind them as part of the clearing, or leave them if you'd rather.

Learn About Stump Grinding

A level circle of pale wood chips sits flush with a mown front lawn where a stump was ground out, a large tree at the left and a man with a mug watching from the porch of a white house.

Trenching

Need power run out to the new ground?

Power to a shop, or lighting out where you want it. Trenching is its own job, and we can quote it.

Learn About Trenching

A straight narrow trench cut across a mown lawn toward the corner of a grey outbuilding, the red clay spoil laid in a neat line along one side, a tracked skid steer parked on the grass in the background and a hardwood treeline behind.

Hardscapes

A gravel drive or a place to park once it's cleared?

Gravel, river rock, and stone at the small-to-medium end. Mention it while we're out there.

Learn About Hardscapes

A curving pea-gravel path edged with river rock running from a house past a bed of hostas and ornamental grasses across a lawn to a wooden gate, with a large shade tree and a wooded hillside behind.

Why Work With Us

You'll know what's coming out, and what's staying, before anything is cut.

Trees, yards, acreage, and commercial properties all over Greater Chattanooga — that's been our work for more than 25 years.

When David walks the property with you, he's looking at more than what needs to come out.

He's looking at what you want the land for, what's worth keeping, and the practical way to get there.

Already know exactly what's coming out?

We'll quote the clearing.

Have a piece of ground and an idea?

He'll walk it with you and talk through what it would take.

Sometimes the answer is clearing all of it.

Sometimes it's opening up part of it now and leaving the rest for later.

And sometimes the stand of trees you were going to take out turns out to be the best thing on the property, and he'll point that out.

The goal is land you can use, on a plan that makes sense to you.

Out On A Limb For You is an insured Georgia LLC based in Flintstone, Georgia and serves customers throughout Greater Chattanooga on both sides of the Georgia-Tennessee state line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about land clearing

Do I need a permit to clear my land?

We'll help you understand what the project involves before work begins, including permits when they're required, and we'll help you navigate the permit process.

What applies depends on where your property sits and what you're planning. If a permit is required, you'll know about it before anything starts.

What happens to all the brush and trees you clear?

Most of it is hauled off.

If you'd rather some of it stay on the property, or you'd like to keep some of the wood, tell us before we start and we'll work that out with you.

Where everything goes is settled before the job and spelled out in the estimate.

Will the land be ready to build on when you're done?

Clearing gets the brush, trees, and stumps out of the way.

What the site needs after that depends on what you're building. David can talk through the next steps with you at the estimate, so you know what's included and what isn't.

Do you clear small areas, or just big jobs?

Both.

A strip along a fence line, a corner of the yard, or several acres. Call or text with what you've got, and we'll come out and quote it.
