A brick ranch house with the foundation bed along its left half cleared to bare soil and the shrubs along its right half still standing, a man in a blue shirt on the front lawn with his hands in his pockets looking at it, a pile of cut brush on the grass, and a pickup and trailer in the driveway under an overhanging maple.

When Shrub Removal Makes Sense

Some of them you've wanted gone for years.

A shrub doesn't have to be dead before taking it out makes sense.

You may have:

  • A row along the front that's gotten bigger than you ever wanted
  • One bush that's been in the wrong spot since the day it went in
  • Shrubs crowding a window, the front steps, or the walk to the door
  • A hedge you're tired of keeping trimmed
  • One that's died, or gone brown in the middle with a little green around the edge
  • Plantings put in by whoever had the house before you
  • A bed you're clearing out for something new

And sometimes you just never liked them. That's all the reason you need.

Which Ones Stay

Not sure whether one is worth keeping? David can look at it with you.

Sometimes it's worth keeping, and he'll tell you. Sometimes it isn't, and he'll tell you that too.

What to Expect

It starts with which ones are going and which ones are staying.

When David comes out, he looks at:

  • Which shrubs are coming out and which are staying
  • What's planted around them that you want left alone
  • What they're up against, like the house, a fence, a walkway, or the edge of the bed
  • How we'll get to them and get them out
  • What you want the spot for once they're gone

Then you get a quote for the work, with what's included laid out.

Take your time with it. When you're ready, we put it on the schedule.

On the day, the shrubs come out, tops first and then the roots.

The Roots

How much of the root comes out depends on the shrub.

Once a shrub is cut down, the root is what's left to deal with.

We do our best to get it out. Some come out easily. Some don't.

What we won't do is tear up all the ground around it chasing every last root.

David can look at yours during the estimate and tell you what to expect.

Landscaping and Beds

Putting something new in the spot?

If the shrubs are coming out to make room for new plantings, a fresh bed, or a privacy line, that's landscaping.

We can take the old out and put the new in as one job.

Learn About Landscaping

A woman with one hand on her hip stands on the front walk of a red-brick ranch house, looking down at a foundation bed of clipped boxwoods, pink roses and white flowers along the front wall, with a large shade tree at the left.

Land Clearing

More than a bed's worth?

Brush across a corner of the lot, or a fence line you can't find anymore, is land clearing. Start there.

Learn About Land Clearing

A man in a jacket stands with his back to the camera on a freshly cleared lot of pale wood chips, looking toward a stand of tall hardwoods in orange and gold, the edge of a yellow track loader at the far left and blue ridges beyond.

Stump Grinding

Tree stump in the same bed?

If there's a tree stump in with the shrubs, or close by, we can grind it while we're there.

Stump grinding is quoted separately. Mention it when we come out.

Learn About Stump Grinding

A level circle of pale wood chips sits flush with a mown front lawn where a stump was ground out, a large tree at the left and a man with a mug watching from the porch of a white house.

Why Work With Us

Taking a shrub out isn't the hard part. Deciding which ones is.

Here in Greater Chattanooga, we've been working on trees, yards, and properties for more than 25 years.

When David comes out, he's looking at what you've got and listening to what you want.

Just want the one by the front door gone?

We'll quote that and leave the rest alone.

Want the whole front cleared out and started over?

He'll go along the bed with you and say what he'd take out and what he'd leave.

Like most of what's there and just want the worst of it out?

That works too.

Sometimes fewer need to come out than you'd figured.

Sometimes one you'd written off is worth keeping, and he'll point that out.

And sometimes every one of them goes, because that's what you wanted.

The goal is a yard with the shrubs you want in it, and none of the ones you don't.

Out On A Limb For You is an insured Georgia LLC based in Flintstone, Georgia and serves customers throughout Greater Chattanooga on both sides of the Georgia-Tennessee state line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about shrub removal

Will you get the roots out?

We do our best, and it depends on the shrub. We won't dig up all the ground around it to get the last piece, and there's a little more on that under The Roots above.

Can you take out just one, or does it have to be the whole row?

Either one.

One bush, a few of them, or the whole run along the house. Tell us which ones are going and which are staying.

There's a tree stump in the same bed. Can you take that out too?

We can grind it while we're there.

Stump grinding is quoted separately, so mention it when we come out and David will look at both.

Can you put something new in where they were?

That's landscaping, and it can go on the same job.

If the shrubs are coming out to make room for new plantings, a fresh bed, or a privacy line, we can take the old out and put the new in as one job.
